In a bid to enhance public safety and convenience, District Magistrate Mukesh Repswal has enacted traffic control measures under Section 115 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988, specifically for the Dalhousie Municipal Council area.

These measures, which were recommended by the Sub-Divisional Magistrate following discussions with various stakeholders, aim to improve traffic management significantly:

  • One-Way Traffic Routes:

    • The route from Bus Stand to Subhash Chowk to Gandhi Chowk (via Subhash Road) will be designated as one-way for all vehicles, with the exception of two-wheelers.

    • The route from Subhash Chowk (entry) to Court Road to Potrain Road back to Subhash Chowk (exit) will also be one-way, allowing exemptions for ambulances, two-wheelers, and vehicles related to administration and press during emergencies.

  • Heavy Vehicles and Tourist Buses: Entry and exit for these vehicles will be restricted to the hours of 10:30 AM to 2:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 7:00 AM.

  • School Transport:

    • Buses from Sacred Heart School will have direct routes available between 8:05 AM and 8:20 AM, and again from 3:40 PM to 3:50 PM.

    • Buses from Guru Nanak Public School will be allowed to operate between 8:50 AM and 9:10 AM.

  • Restricted Areas:

    • Garam Road will be closed to all vehicles from 3:30 PM to 5:00 PM, with exceptions for residents and hotel guests.

    • Mall Road, stretching from GPO to Dalhousie Parking near Bhandari Palace, will be entirely off-limits to vehicles.

    • Several roads, including Khajjiar Road, Panchpulla Road, CB Road, Thandi Sadak, and the Bus Stand to Subhash Chowk route, will be designated as No Parking Zones.

  • Parking Guidelines: Vehicles must only park in designated yellow-marked areas along Thandi Sadak, Potrain Road, Mall Road, MES Road, Subhash Bauli, and Jandrigat Road.

  • Heavy Vehicle Parking Restrictions: Heavy vehicles are prohibited from parking at Bus Stand to GPO (Church Balloon Road), GPO to Dhoop Ghadi, and Thandi Sadak. Taxi unions are allowed to park only two taxis at Bus Stand, Subhash Chowk, and GPO at any given time.

  • Construction Material Regulations: Dumping of construction materials on roads is banned. Unloading is permitted only between 9:00 PM and 7:00 AM at designated locations.

  • Speed Limit: All vehicles, except those on emergency or official duty, must adhere to a maximum speed limit of 30 km/h.

These traffic regulations will come into effect on April 25, 2026, and will be enforced throughout the year.
