New Regulations on LPG Usage for Weddings in Bihar
Government Tightens LPG Regulations for Wedding Events
A digital desk report indicates that amidst a shortage of cooking gas in Bihar, the government has intensified regulations concerning wedding ceremonies. The state's Department of Food and Consumer Protection has issued new guidelines mandating adherence to specific rules regarding the use of gas during such events.
Changes in Regulations
According to Special Secretary Upendra Kumar, the use of domestic LPG cylinders at wedding functions is now prohibited as it exacerbates the pressure on gas supply. Henceforth, only commercial gas cylinders will be permitted for these occasions.
Application Required Before Weddings
Under the new regulations:
- Families must submit an application to the relevant Sub-Divisional Officer (SDO).
- It is mandatory to attach the wedding invitation card with the application.
- Details regarding the number of guests and the gas requirements must be provided.
Based on this information, the administration will determine the next steps.
Regulations for Caterers and Chefs
The government has also brought caterers and chefs under these regulations. All must register for commercial gas usage, with oil companies instructed to complete this process within 5 to 7 days.
Administration to Decide Cylinder Quota
The number of gas cylinders allocated for weddings will now be determined by the administration rather than the families. The SDO will assess the guest count and decide the gas supply accordingly.
Usage Restricted to Weddings Only
The government has clarified that the gas cylinders provided can only be used for wedding ceremonies. Any other usage will result in action being taken.
Growing Concerns and Questions
While the government claims these measures are aimed at improving the system and preventing misuse, public concern is rising. Residents already facing gas shortages express worries that the new bureaucratic processes and formalities will complicate traditional events like weddings.
