A New Chapter in Manipur's Politics
Manipur has entered a new phase in its political landscape. Under the leadership of Chief Minister Y. Khemchand Singh, the newly formed government has quickly signaled its commitment to state development and administrative efficiency. Just one hour after taking the oath of office, the Chief Minister convened the first cabinet meeting at his residence on Wednesday night.
Officials confirmed that this meeting took place shortly after Singh was sworn in as Chief Minister. The Chief Secretary, Dr. Puneet Kumar Goyal, participated in the meeting, along with Deputy Chief Minister L. Dikho and newly appointed ministers Govindas Konthojam and K. Loken Singh.
A government statement noted, 'The first cabinet meeting of Manipur's new government was held today at the Chief Minister's residence.' Meanwhile, Lok Bhawan announced that various political parties have extended unconditional support to the BJP. A statement revealed that the National People's Party (6 members), Naga People's Front (5 members), Janata Dal-United (1 member), and two independent members have pledged their support to the BJP.
Assembly Session Called by Governor
On Thursday afternoon, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla convened the seventh session of the 12th Assembly. This information was shared in an official statement. According to a release from Assembly Secretary Rohit Sapam, 'Exercising the powers conferred under Article 174(1) of the Indian Constitution, I, Ajay Kumar Bhalla, as the Governor of Manipur, hereby summon the seventh session of the 12th Assembly on Thursday, February 5, 2026, at 4 PM.'
