A recently uncovered suicide note allegedly penned by Jeffrey Epstein during his time in a Manhattan jail has sparked renewed scrutiny regarding the investigation into his death. This note, reportedly found in July 2019 by Epstein's former cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione, came to light after Epstein was discovered unresponsive in his cell, with a cloth strip around his neck. Although Epstein survived that incident, he was later found dead weeks later at the Metropolitan Correctional Center.

The note was sealed by a federal judge as part of Tartaglione's criminal proceedings, which effectively kept it from investigators looking into Epstein's notorious death. Consequently, this crucial piece of evidence remained concealed for several years. Tartaglione disclosed that the note contained a simple farewell message, stating it was 'time to say goodbye.' He first brought it to public attention during a podcast, yet it remained largely unseen for almost seven years, despite calls from lawmakers for increased transparency regarding the Epstein case.

Since December, the U.S. Department of Justice has released millions of documents related to Epstein. Among these is a two-page timeline that references the note and its significance in Tartaglione's legal matters. According to this timeline, Tartaglione's legal team reviewed and confirmed the note's authenticity, although the specifics of this verification process were not detailed. If authentic, the note could shed light on Epstein's mental state in the days leading up to his death.

A representative from the Justice Department stated that a thorough effort was made to collect all pertinent records, including those from the Bureau of Prisons and the Office of the Inspector General, in compliance with federal mandates to disclose Epstein-related documents.

Epstein's death was officially classified as a suicide, but an investigation later revealed serious security failures by the staff at the facility, which has since been shut down. The events surrounding his death continue to provoke discussion and speculation. After the July incident, Epstein informed jail officials that his injuries were due to an assault by Tartaglione and denied any suicidal intentions. Tartaglione, who has consistently refuted these claims, was later told by Epstein that he felt secure sharing a cell with him, as per prison records.

Tartaglione, a former police officer who was convicted in 2023 and is currently serving four life sentences, is appealing his conviction and maintains his innocence.
