New FASTag Annual Pass Set to Launch on August 15 for Hassle-Free Toll Payments

Overview of the FASTag Annual Pass

Beginning on August 15, coinciding with India's Independence Day, the FASTag electronic toll collection system will receive a major enhancement. The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is set to roll out the FASTag annual pass, aimed at providing ease and financial relief for regular travelers by simplifying toll payment processes.

What Is the Annual Pass?

This prepaid initiative is specifically tailored for non-commercial vehicles, including private cars, vans, and jeeps. Vehicle owners will be required to make a one-time payment of Rs 3000.

In exchange, they will receive access to either 200 toll crossings or a validity period of one year, whichever comes first.

This scheme is applicable exclusively on national highways and expressways managed by NHAI and the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).

The introduction of this pass aims to reduce the frequency of recharges, expedite toll payments, and alleviate congestion at toll booths.

Announcement of the Pass

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari unveiled this initiative in June 2025, highlighting that it will address longstanding issues at toll plazas located within a 60 km radius.

He emphasized that the scheme will simplify the payment process with a single, affordable fee, thereby minimizing crowding, wait times, and disputes at toll plazas.

Functionality of the Pass

There is no need to obtain a new tag, as the pass will be linked to the existing FASTag.

This pass is designated for a single vehicle and is non-transferable.

The scheme is valid only at national toll plazas.

How to Purchase the Pass

To acquire the pass, users should visit the Rajmarg Yatra app or the NHAI/MoRTH website.

After logging in with the vehicle number and FASTag ID, ensure that the FASTag is active and linked to the vehicle.

Complete the payment of Rs 3000, and the pass will be associated with the existing FASTag.

Confirmation will be sent via SMS on August 15.

Pass Validity

The pass will be valid on National Highways and Expressways, including routes such as the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, Mumbai-Nashik, Mumbai-Surat, and Mumbai-Ratnagiri.

It will also cover toll roads managed by State Governments, including the Mumbai–Pune Expressway, Samruddhi Mahamarg (Mumbai-Nagpur), Atal Setu, Agra-Lucknow, Bengaluru–Mysore, and Ahmedabad-Vadodara Expressway.
