Crime Scene Reconstruction Reveals Key Evidence

Guwahati, June 17: The recent crime scene reconstruction conducted by the Meghalaya Police at Weisawdong Falls has unveiled critical details regarding the murder of businessman Raja Raghuvanshi, who was based in Indore.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has confirmed that the victim suffered multiple blows to the head, and the body was disposed of in a coordinated manner by the three suspects: Akash Rajput, Vishal Singh Chauhan, and Anand Kurmi.

East Khasi Hills Superintendent of Police Vivek Syiem described the reconstruction as “very successful,” emphasizing that it was supported by comprehensive videographic documentation.

“We now have a clear understanding of the sequence of events,” he stated.

Forensic evidence indicated that Raja sustained two severe head injuries caused by a sharp object, with investigators confirming that Vishal delivered the initial fatal blow.

“Vishal struck Raja with both hands using a sharp tool, resulting in a significant wound that was likely fatal,” the SP explained.

Another accomplice, Anand, attempted a third strike, but his anxiety may have diminished its effectiveness.

“Even if it caused injury, the post-mortem could not verify the third wound due to decomposition,” Syiem clarified.

During the assault, Raja’s wife, Sonam Raghuvanshi, who is also a key suspect, reportedly distanced herself from the incident.

“As they approached the viewpoint, Sonam was ahead while Raja was behind. The other three men surrounded him. When Raja was attacked and screamed, Sonam simply walked away,” the SP recounted.

Police reported that Akash, one of the accused, disposed of the body into a gorge, later guiding investigators to the precise location. “The body initially landed on a ledge before falling into the gorge,” Syiem noted.

Further investigations revealed that both Sonam’s and Raja’s mobile phones were destroyed after the murder. Authorities are also examining the escape route taken by the suspects post-crime.

One of the murder weapons, a machete with a steel handle, remains unaccounted for. The State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) has been deployed to locate it using handheld metal detectors.

The police believe these recent findings are crucial for constructing a solid case ahead of filing the chargesheet.
