Investigation Updates on Nancy Guthrie's Case

This week, fresh information has surfaced regarding the search for Nancy Guthrie, the 84-year-old mother of Savannah Guthrie, a prominent anchor on the Today show. Nancy disappeared from her home in Tucson, Arizona, during the early hours of February 1st. On his YouTube program, reporter Brian Entin disclosed that the FBI is now investigating a recently vacated property close to where Nancy was last seen. He noted, "One neighbor moved out before Nancy went missing, and investigators are probing that situation further."

Retired SWAT commander Bob Krygier shared insights with Parade, suggesting that the empty house might have been utilized as a vantage point for whoever abducted Nancy, allowing them to observe the neighborhood discreetly. He stated, "It would give them a plausible reason to be in the area at various times." From such a location, a suspect could keep track of neighborhood activities, including Nancy's movements. Krygier also mentioned that the property could have been a site for setting up surveillance equipment, hidden from the neighborhood's view.

Why This Inquiry Now?

Krygier emphasized that the timing of this investigation should not be interpreted as a sign of investigators falling behind. As the case approaches its seventh week, he explained that following up on leads is a standard and essential aspect of any prolonged missing persons case. "Believe it or not, new viable leads emerge frequently," he remarked. "Someone nearby might recall something or hear something that triggers a memory they previously dismissed as insignificant."

Details Surrounding Nancy's Disappearance

Nancy Guthrie was last seen at her residence in Tucson on January 31st and was reported missing the next day. Authorities suspect she was kidnapped, and both her family and investigators are worried about her health, as she requires daily medication. On February 10th, the FBI released footage from a doorbell camera showing a masked individual on her porch the night of her disappearance. The suspect was dressed in a ski mask, jacket, long pants, and gloves, and appeared to be carrying a handgun in a holster. He was described as being around 5-foot-9 to 5-foot-10, of average build, and carrying a 25-liter Ozark Trail Hiker backpack. His identity remains unknown, and a reward of $1 million is still unclaimed.
