New Developments in Nerchowk Medical College Assault Case
Inquiry Clarifies Assault Incident at Medical College
Recent revelations have surfaced regarding an assault case involving a second-year medical trainee at Shri Lal Bahadur Shastri Medical College and Hospital in Nerchowk, following a thorough investigation by the institution's Anti-Ragging Committee.
The incident, which took place on December 18, 2025, raised alarms when the trainee doctor reported being physically assaulted and subjected to ragging by two senior trainees. However, the committee's findings indicated that while a confrontation occurred, the claims of ragging were not validated.
Principal Dr. DK Verma confirmed that the inquiry identified two third-year trainees as participants in the physical altercation. As a result, both have been expelled from the hostel for one year and prohibited from attending classes for three months, along with a fine of ₹20,000 each.
Moreover, the committee scrutinized the behavior of the complainant, revealing issues related to substance addiction and allegations that he sought money from the senior trainees in exchange for retracting his complaint. Consequently, the complainant has been expelled from the hostel for six weeks and fined ₹10,000.
Dr. Verma also noted that the two senior trainees had a prior history of involvement in a ragging case, which resulted in a six-month suspension. Given the gravity of the situation, all three trainees have been referred for counseling.
Details of the Complaint
Official records indicate that the incident occurred around 6 PM on December 18. The complainant, identified as Shubham, filed a formal complaint the next day with both the hostel administration and Balh police station, accusing two third-year trainees of assault and ragging.
In response to the complaint, the college administration quickly formed an inquiry committee to investigate the allegations. After reviewing statements and evidence, the committee concluded that a physical altercation had indeed taken place, but ruled out ragging as the motive.
The inquiry further suggested that the complainant may have instigated the senior trainees during a dispute and later used ragging allegations as a defense. The two third-year trainees involved have been identified as Harsh from Rajasthan and Prashant Kumar from Delhi.
The college administration has reiterated its dedication to upholding discipline, ensuring student safety, and maintaining a zero-tolerance policy towards violence, while conducting inquiries in a fair and strict manner.
