New Developments in Nancy Guthrie's Disappearance: Ransom Messages and Search Efforts
Ransom Messages Linked to Nancy Guthrie's Case
A former FBI agent has highlighted a crucial detail regarding ransom messages sent to a media outlet by someone claiming to possess information about Nancy Guthrie's disappearance. The outlet reported that it received two messages on Monday from the same individual, who demanded one Bitcoin in exchange for revealing the identities of those believed to be involved in her alleged kidnapping. In a follow-up message, the sender asserted they had seen Guthrie alive with her captors in Sonora, Mexico. Jennifer Coffindaffer, the former FBI agent, noted the significance of Sonora, referencing the volunteer organization Madres Buscadoras de Sonora, which is dedicated to searching for missing persons in that area. She speculated whether they might be involved in the search for Nancy in Mexico, mentioning their previous efforts in Arizona. However, she clarified that she was not endorsing the claims made in the messages.
Nancy Guthrie, aged 84, is the mother of Savannah Guthrie and has been missing for over two months. She was last seen at her residence near Tucson, Arizona, on January 31 and was reported missing the next day. Authorities suspect she was kidnapped, as blood drops were discovered on her porch. Investigators also released footage from a doorbell camera showing an armed, masked individual at her home on the night of her disappearance. Members of Madres Buscadoras had previously traveled to Arizona to aid in the search. Reports indicate that their request for a permit to conduct searches in the desert was denied by the Pima County Sheriff’s Department, which stated that such operations should be handled by professionals. Instead, some members of the group distributed missing-person flyers and searched areas close to the US-Mexico border, including Nogales. Authorities overseeing the investigation are aware of the ransom notes and are evaluating all incoming information. The FBI has yet to verify the authenticity of any messages related to this case. The media outlet reported that the sender has reached out multiple times, requesting payment in cryptocurrency for information. The latest messages coincided with Savannah Guthrie's return to co-host the Today program for the first time since her mother's disappearance. During the broadcast, Savannah expressed gratitude to viewers for their support, stating, "We feel your prayers, so thank you so much." She previously mentioned that while many messages received by the family seemed false, two ransom notes they responded to were deemed credible.
