New Developments in Alleged IIM-Calcutta Rape Case: Father Claims Incident Did Not Occur

Allegations and Counterclaims in Kolkata

Kolkata: The case involving an alleged rape by a student at the Indian Institute of Management-Calcutta has taken an unexpected turn, as the father of the woman involved asserts that the incident did not occur.

The student accused of the crime was taken into custody on Saturday following a complaint filed by the woman, according to a police spokesperson.

The alleged event reportedly transpired within the boys' hostel at IIM-Calcutta on Friday, the officer noted.

However, the woman's father later informed the media that his daughter had been involved in an accident that resulted in her injuries.

"I received a call from my daughter around 9:40 PM on Friday. She mentioned that she had fallen from a vehicle, lost consciousness, and sustained injuries. I later learned she was admitted to SSKM Hospital. The claims made by the police do not align with what my daughter told me," he stated.

According to the police report, the woman indicated in her FIR that she was invited to the hostel for a counseling session.

"She became unconscious after consuming a drink that was allegedly drugged. Upon regaining consciousness, she realized she had been raped," the officer explained.

In a related development, a local court has placed the accused student in police custody until July 19.

The additional chief judicial magistrate at Alipore court, after considering arguments from both sides, approved the police's request for remand.

The defense attorney argued in court that IIM-Calcutta, located in Joka on the outskirts of Kolkata, is a secure environment with limited access, suggesting that there may be inconsistencies in the allegations.
