Police Action in Mayurbhanj District
Baripada: Authorities have apprehended another suspect linked to the alleged gang rape of a 19-year-old woman in the Mayurbhanj district of Odisha, as confirmed by a police official on Thursday.
The incident occurred on June 24 within the Karanjia police station area when the victim was on her way back to her uncle's residence after visiting a nearby Hanuman temple, according to Nabakrushna Nayak, the Sub-divisional Police Officer (SDPO) of Karanjia.
While returning, she was approached by two individuals on a motorcycle who offered her a ride. They then took her to a secluded location where another accomplice joined them, and the assault allegedly took place.
After the incident, the victim filed a complaint at the Karanjia police station. The police swiftly arrested the main suspect on Wednesday, followed by the arrest of another suspect on Thursday, Nayak reported.
The SDPO stated, "We are making every effort to apprehend the remaining suspect in this case promptly."
In response to the incident, Congress supporters, led by Mayurbhanj district president Bhuban Bihari Sahu, organized a protest outside the Karanjia police station. This protest comes shortly after another reported gang rape of a college student at Gopalpur sea beach in Ganjam district.
