Introduction of New Train Services


Chennai, Jan 17: The Indian Railways is set to introduce three new Amrit Bharat train services connecting Tamil Nadu with West Bengal this Saturday, significantly improving affordable long-distance rail travel between the southern and eastern regions of India.


These Amrit Bharat trains serve as a budget-friendly alternative to premium options like the Vande Bharat Express, focusing on enhancing passenger comfort while keeping fares accessible for everyone.


With this initiative, Tamil Nadu will gain three additional Amrit Bharat services.


The first Amrit Bharat train in the state, which runs from Erode in Tamil Nadu to Jogbani in Bihar, previously marked the launch of this service category in the area.


The Railway Board has now sanctioned three more weekly services connecting important locations in Tamil Nadu and West Bengal.


As per a statement from Southern Railway, the new routes will include Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli, Tambaram–Chandrakachi, and Nagercoil–Jalpaiguri.


A ceremonial event at Rangapani railway station in West Bengal will mark the official launch of these services.


The Nagercoil–Jalpaiguri Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 20604) is scheduled to leave Rangapani at 1:45 PM on Saturday, arriving in Nagercoil at 7:15 PM on January 19.


Within Tamil Nadu, this train will stop at several stations including Katpadi, Jolarpettai, Salem, Erode, Tiruppur, Coimbatore, Pollachi, Udumalaipettai, Palani, Dindigul, Madurai, Virudhunagar, Sattur, Kovilpatti, and Tirunelveli.


The Jalpaiguri–Tiruchirappalli Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 20610) will also depart Jalpaiguri at 1:45 PM on Saturday, expected to reach Tiruchirappalli by 2:15 PM on January 19.


This train will make stops at Egmore, Tambaram, Chengalpattu, Villupuram, Chidambaram, Mayiladuthurai, Kumbakonam, and Thanjavur along its route.


Additionally, the Tambaram–Chandrakachi Amrit Bharat Express (Train No. 16107) will start its service on Sunday, departing Chandrakachi at 2:45 PM and arriving at Tambaram by 6:45 PM.


Railway officials indicated that further details regarding the regular operational schedules for these three Amrit Bharat trains will be released separately.


The introduction of these services is anticipated to greatly benefit numerous passengers by offering reliable, cost-effective, and enhanced rail connectivity between Tamil Nadu and eastern India.
