Experienced Team Set for T20 World Cup
On Monday, the Netherlands announced its squad for the ICC T20 World Cup 2026, retaining a seasoned lineup that includes skipper Scott Edwards, Colin Ackermann, Bas de Leede, and Logan van Beek. This team has a wealth of experience, having represented the Netherlands in significant ICC tournaments over the past few years.
A Rich History in World Cups
The Netherlands qualified for the tournament alongside Italy through the European qualifiers. This marks their seventh participation in the prestigious T20I event, having first debuted in 2009, where they famously upset England. Their most notable performance came during the 2022 World Cup in Australia, where they reached the Super 12 stage, finishing eighth overall. They secured victories against South Africa and Zimbabwe and had competitive matches against Sri Lanka and Bangladesh, garnering attention from the cricketing community.
Group Stage Matches Ahead
In Group A, the Netherlands will face formidable opponents including India, Pakistan, Namibia, and the United States. Their campaign kicks off against Pakistan on February 7 in Colombo.
Head Coach's Confidence
Head coach Ryan Cook expressed confidence in the team's preparations, stating, "With our experience from previous World Cups and recent matches against all teams in our group, along with our familiarity with the conditions in Sri Lanka and India, we feel well-prepared. Our players and staff have dedicated themselves to ensuring the team is in a strong position for success in the tournament."
"We have a squad rich in depth and variety, which we believe will be advantageous against our opponents and in these conditions. Experience will be crucial as we aim to progress through the group stages," he added.
