New Delhi: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his heartfelt congratulations to the citizens and government of Nepal for successfully conducting their elections, marking a significant achievement in the nation's democratic evolution.

Modi emphasized India's unwavering support as a close ally, pledging to collaborate with the new government and the people of Nepal to foster shared peace, progress, and prosperity.

"I extend my warmest congratulations to the people and government of Nepal for the peaceful and successful elections. It is uplifting to witness my Nepali brothers and sisters actively exercising their democratic rights. This historic achievement is a proud moment in Nepal's democratic journey," Modi stated in a message on X.

In a remarkable turn of events, rapper-turned-politician Balendra Shah's Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP) is poised for a significant victory in Nepal's first general elections following last year's tumultuous Gen Z protests, challenging the long-standing dominance of traditional political parties.

The RSP, established in 2022 by Ravi Lamichhane, has already secured 39 out of the 50 declared seats, achieving a clean sweep in all 10 constituencies of Kathmandu district and leading in 80 additional seats, as reported by the Election Commission of Nepal.

With Balendra Shah as its prime ministerial candidate, the RSP is on track for a sweeping victory in the province, having launched its inaugural election campaign in Janakpur, Madhesh.
