Nepal Police Capture Foreign Nationals with Cocaine: What You Need to Know
Significant Drug Bust in Kathmandu
Kathmandu: Authorities in Nepal have detained three foreign individuals, including two from India, in connection with the seizure of 4.3 kilograms of cocaine, as reported by officials.
A specialized team from the Narcotics Control Bureau conducted the arrests in the Sinamangal area of Kathmandu Metropolitan City-9, where the suspects had arrived by air.
The detained individuals include two Indian nationals and one from Thailand, all implicated in separate drug trafficking incidents.
The total amount of cocaine recovered during these operations was 4.3 kilograms, according to the Narcotic Drug Control Bureau of Nepal Police.
The Indian suspects, Xavier Mathew Thaliachery, aged 55, and 21-year-old Mursalen Hussain, were apprehended in Sinamangal with 3.75 kilograms of cocaine. Hussain had traveled to Kathmandu from Laos via Singapore and was arrested while on the roadside.
In a different case, a 40-year-old Thai woman named Miss Rusanee Kama was caught with 550 grams of cocaine. She had arrived in Kathmandu from Laos through Bangkok.
Kama was taken into custody during a targeted operation at her hotel in Sinamangal, following a tip-off. Police discovered 12 plastic-coated capsules containing cocaine in her hotel room.
Additionally, 29 capsules were found hidden in her stomach after she was taken to a local hospital for examination. It was revealed that she had ingested these capsules.
The authorities have initiated legal proceedings against all three individuals under the Narcotic Drugs Control Act 2033 B.S., and they are currently in judicial custody following approval from the Kathmandu District Court.
