NEET-UG Shifts to Computer-Based Testing

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Friday that it will implement a computer-based testing (CBT) format for the NEET-UG examination starting next year, following discussions with the central government.

This declaration was made in front of the Supreme Court, which is currently reviewing multiple petitions concerning a recent paper leak incident that resulted in the cancellation of the exam scheduled for May 3.

In an affidavit presented to Justices PS Narasimha and Alok Aradhe, the NTA revealed that a high-level committee of experts (HLCE) has advised this shift to the CBT format.

The NTA noted that, apart from NEET (UG) 2026, which was conducted using the traditional pen and paper method, all other significant examinations managed by the NTA are already utilizing the CBT format.

The affidavit stated, "The HLCE has specifically recommended the transition of NEET (UG) from PPT to CBT mode, along with the introduction of multi-session and multi-stage testing."

The NTA confirmed that this transition will take effect in the next examination cycle, in collaboration with the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, ensuring that all major NTA assessments will be conducted on the CBT platform.
