Government's Assurance for NEET-UG Rescheduled Exam

To address concerns regarding the rescheduled NEET-UG exam, senior officials from the health and education ministries informed a parliamentary committee on Wednesday that comprehensive measures have been implemented to ensure the fairness of the test set for June 21. The initial NEET exam, conducted on May 3 for undergraduate medical admissions, was canceled on May 12 due to a paper leak incident. Following this, the parliamentary committee on health and family welfare summoned the secretaries of both ministries to discuss the re-examination.

The panel also called upon senior officials from the National Testing Agency (NTA) and the National Medical Commission (NMC). Committee members urged these officials to adopt a foolproof system for the entrance test, emphasizing that similar exams in countries like China and the USA do not face paper leak issues. They encouraged the officials to learn from effective practices implemented abroad to ensure a secure and reliable examination system. Additionally, they highlighted the need for improved coordination between the NMC and NTA.

Members of parliament expressed their concerns over the rising number of student suicides and the anxiety among candidates due to the paper leaks and cancellations. This parliamentary committee meeting marked the third instance where top officials from both ministries, the NTA, and the NMC were called to address the NEET-UG exam paper controversy. Previously, they had appeared before education-related parliamentary committees, where they reiterated their primary goal of conducting the re-examination in a pen-and-paper format on June 21.

CBI Director Praveen Sood also presented updates on the investigation into the paper leak case and the measures being taken to apprehend the suspects.
