New Delhi, May 15: The National Testing Agency (NTA) has declared that the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2026 will be held again on June 21, following the cancellation of the initial examination due to serious allegations of irregularities.
This decision comes shortly after the NTA annulled the previous test and referred the situation to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for an in-depth investigation into the alleged misconduct, which includes claims of a leaked question paper.
A senior official confirmed, “With the Government of India’s approval, the NTA has set the re-examination date for NEET (UG) 2026 on Sunday, June 21, 2026.”
Sources indicate that this decision was reached during a high-level review meeting convened late Thursday at the residence of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in New Delhi.
The meeting reportedly aimed at enhancing security protocols, ensuring transparency in the examination process, and rebuilding trust among the thousands of candidates and their families.
The upcoming re-examination is anticipated to implement stricter monitoring measures and improved collaboration between central and state authorities to avert any future malpractice.
The cancellation of NEET-UG 2026 sparked significant unrest and protests among students and parents in various states, who demanded accountability and a fair examination process.
Opposition parties have criticized the central government for alleged failures in managing one of the nation’s largest entrance examinations.
Previously, the NTA announced that the CBI would investigate the alleged irregularities after initial findings suggested possible organized malpractice related to the examination.
Multiple agencies have been engaged to scrutinize the events surrounding the alleged paper leak and the operations of examination centers.
Reports indicated that the controversy began when allegations emerged that parts of the NEET-UG question paper had been leaked prior to the examination, leading to increased scrutiny.
The NEET-UG examination was initially conducted on May 3 nationwide for admission into undergraduate medical programs.
