NEET-UG 2026 Examination Cancelled

New Delhi: The National Testing Agency (NTA) announced on Tuesday that the NEET-UG 2026 examination, which took place on May 3, has been cancelled. A new date for the exam will be announced soon.

The NTA made this announcement via a statement on the social media platform X, explaining that the cancellation was prompted by information received from central agencies and law enforcement regarding potential irregularities during the exam.

In a follow-up to their earlier press release dated May 10, 2026, the NTA informed candidates, parents, and the public about the decisions regarding NEET (UG) 2026. On May 8, the agency had referred the issues under review to central agencies for independent verification and necessary actions, reaffirming its commitment to conducting national examinations fairly and securely.

The NTA indicated that, following the findings from investigative agencies and coordination with central authorities, the examination process could not be upheld.

The agency stated, "Based on the inputs reviewed in collaboration with central agencies and the findings from law enforcement, the NTA, with the Government of India's approval, has decided to cancel the NEET (UG) 2026 examination conducted on May 3, 2026, and will announce new dates for the exam shortly."

Additionally, the Government of India has decided to refer the matter to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) for a thorough inquiry into the allegations surrounding the examination.

The NTA confirmed, "The Government of India has decided to refer the matter to the CBI for a comprehensive inquiry into the allegations. The NTA will fully cooperate with the Bureau, providing all necessary materials and assistance for the inquiry."

The agency emphasized that the inputs received, combined with findings from law enforcement, indicated that the current examination process could not be maintained. Details regarding the new examination dates and the re-issuance of admit cards will be communicated through official channels in the coming days.

The NTA acknowledged the disruption caused to students and parents due to the cancellation and re-examination but stressed that this decision was essential to uphold the integrity of the national examination system.

The agency stated, "This decision is made in the interest of students and acknowledges the trust placed in the national examination system. We understand that the re-examination will cause significant inconvenience to candidates and their families, but the alternative would have led to greater and more lasting damage to that trust."

It was clarified that the registration data, candidate information, and examination centers selected during the May 2026 cycle will remain valid for the re-conducted examination. No new registration will be necessary, and no additional examination fees will be charged.

The NTA also mentioned that the examination fees already paid by candidates would be refunded, and the re-examination will be conducted using the agency's internal resources.

Further information regarding the revised examination schedule and reissued admit cards will be shared through the agency's official channels.

The NTA urged candidates and parents to rely solely on official communications regarding the re-conducted examination dates and admit card schedules, advising them to ignore unverified reports circulating on social media.

In related news, allegations of a possible paper leak emerged from Rajasthan following the NEET-UG 2026 examination held on May 3. The Rajasthan Special Operations Group (SOG) has initiated an investigation into these claims.

Reports indicate that investigators discovered a handwritten suggestion paper containing nearly 120 questions that allegedly corresponded with the actual NEET question paper, including around 90 questions from Biology and 30 from Chemistry.
