NTA Chief Addresses Parliamentary Committee on NEET Paper Leak

In light of the uproar surrounding the extensive conspiracy linked to the NEET exam paper leak, Abhishek Singh, the Director General of the National Testing Agency (NTA), appeared before the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Education, Women, Children, Youth, and Sports on Thursday. He faced inquiries regarding the incident that led to the cancellation of the crucial medical entrance examination. According to sources, Singh informed the committee that the agency does not acknowledge the occurrence of a paper leak for the NEET exam.

Despite repeated questioning from opposition members, NTA officials reportedly stated that the matter is currently under investigation by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI). They emphasized that the agency would only recognize it as a paper leak once the CBI completes its investigation and provides official confirmation. Committee members raised questions about previous incidents related to the alleged paper leak. During the meeting, committee chairman Digvijay Singh posed several queries to the NTA officials.

Sources indicate that members of the ruling National Democratic Alliance (NDA) appeared to support the NTA's stance during the discussions. Following revelations about the leak, the results of the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET), held on May 3, were annulled just two days later. A re-examination for NEET is scheduled for June 21. This development follows multiple arrests made by the CBI in connection with the NEET exam paper leak case, exposing a multi-state conspiracy involving teachers preparing the exam and heads of private coaching institutes. To date, the CBI has arrested a total of 10 individuals.

On Wednesday, a Delhi court remanded five accused in the NEET exam paper leak case to judicial custody until June 2, while the CBI extended the custody of another accused as the agency continues its investigation into the alleged exam scam. Special Judge Ajay Gupta accepted the CBI's request for judicial custody for Mangilal Khatik, Vikas Bival, and Dinesh Bival, arrested from Jaipur, Yash Yadav from Gurugram, and Dhananjay Lokhande from Ahilyanagar, Maharashtra.
