NDA's Tactical Response to Opposition Disruptions
During the ongoing monsoon session of Parliament, the opposition has adopted disruption as its primary political strategy. In response, the ruling party has initiated its own counter-strategy. A significant meeting of the NDA parliamentary party, dubbed 'Mangal Milan', took place on Tuesday within the Parliament premises, focusing on a comprehensive floor strategy for the upcoming ten-day session. This plan aims to not only advance the government's legislative agenda but also to politically corner the opposition within Parliament. The message is clear: while the opposition relies on chaos, the NDA is preparing to counteract with coordination, data, and organized parliamentary management.
The weekly meeting, held in the G.M.C. Balayogi Auditorium of the Parliament Library, was attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Home Minister Amit Shah, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, and several senior ministers from the central government, along with MPs from NDA's allied parties. BJP National President Nitin Gadkari was also seen sitting next to Prime Minister Modi. This meeting occurred at a time when the BJP faced a setback in the recent by-election for the Bankipur assembly seat in Bihar, yet the focus remained on enhancing parliamentary strategy and effectively advancing the government's agenda.

The recent meetings have been termed 'Mangal Milan', evolving into a crucial platform for NDA's parliamentary coordination. These gatherings, held every Tuesday during the parliamentary session, determine the government's legislative agenda, the party's stance on various issues, the participation of MPs, and the roles of allied parties. Responsibilities for speaking among all coalition members, including Shiv Sena, Janata Dal (United), Telugu Desam Party, Lok Janshakti Party, JDS, and Nationalist allies, are also allocated in these meetings to ensure a united and effective representation of the government's position in the house.
A significant portion of today's meeting was dedicated to communicating the government's achievements to the MPs in detail. Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya presented an extensive overview of India's growing prowess in sports. He highlighted that since the adoption of the new sports policy in 2014, India has achieved record performances in international competitions such as the Olympics, Asian Games, and Commonwealth Games, securing numerous historic victories, including gold medals. The government's aim is to not only celebrate these achievements in sports but also to present them as a reflection of the changing image of New India to the public.
The issue of employment was also addressed with detailed statistics presented to the MPs. BJP MP Manoj Tiwari shared that during the meeting, it was revealed that between 2004 and 2014, only 2.89 crore youths found employment under the UPA government, whereas from 2014 to 2026, approximately 17.1 crore job opportunities are expected to be created. Additionally, presentations on various social security schemes and their impacts were made to equip MPs with facts to share with their constituents.
The meeting also showcased a growing coordination within the NDA. BJP MP and former Union Minister P.P. Chaudhary remarked with a smile, "Mangal Milan brings good fortune." Senior MP Sudip Bandopadhyay, who recently transitioned from Trinamool Congress to NCP, attended this meeting for the first time. He stated that he is among the most senior MPs in the country and that the NCP is fully united. He described the NDA's organized approach as a positive experience. Previously, NCP MPs have praised the NDA's parliamentary system and disciplined methodology.
From a political perspective, this meeting served as a counter-move by the NDA against the opposition's strategy. While the opposition remains committed to obstructing the proceedings, the government is now prepared to engage on every issue with facts, figures, and coordinated parliamentary management. This is why a special strategy for floor management has been devised for the next ten days, ensuring that not only are bills passed but that the government's stance is robustly presented in every debate.
