NDA Reveals Seat-Sharing Plan for Tamil Nadu Assembly Elections
NDA's Seat Allocation for Tamil Nadu Elections
On Wednesday, the National Democratic Alliance officially disclosed its seat-sharing arrangement for the upcoming Assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is set to contest 27 of the 234 Assembly seats in the state, which is an increase of seven seats compared to the 2021 elections. Key constituencies include Mylapore in Chennai, Coimbatore North, Madurai, Tiruppur, Avadi, Thanjavur, Tiruvannamalai, Nagercoil, and Radhapuram.
The All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK), led by Edappadi K Palaniswami, will run for all remaining seats not assigned to its allies, totaling approximately 169 seats.
The faction of the Pattali Makkal Katchi, headed by Anbumani Ramadoss, will contest 18 seats, which include Dharmapuri, Pennagaram, Vikravandi, Sholingur, Tiruporur, Uthiramerur, Polur, Gingee, and Vriddhachalam.
Meanwhile, the Amma Makkal Munnetra Kazhagam, led by TTV Dhinakaran, has been allocated 11 seats, including Mannargudi, Tiruvaiyaru, and Nanguneri.
The Tamil Maanila Congress will contest five seats, while the Indhiya Jananayaka Katchi will compete for two. Additionally, the Tamil Nadu Muslim Munnetra Kazhagam and the Puthiya Bharatham Party will each contest one seat.
The elections are scheduled for a single phase on April 23, with vote counting set for May 4.
In the previous 2021 elections, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam-led coalition, which included the Congress and Left parties, emerged victorious, securing 159 seats in the 234-member Assembly. The NDA, primarily consisting of the AIADMK and BJP, won 75 seats, leading to DMK leader MK Stalin becoming the Chief Minister.
