NCPCR Takes Action on Child Abuse Allegations
The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights (NCPCR) has initiated an investigation into allegations of abuse and mistreatment of young children at a day-care center located within an IT company's campus in the Brookfield area of Bengaluru.
In a letter addressed to P.S. Kantharaju, the Deputy Commissioner of Bengaluru Urban, dated July 2, the NCPCR stated that a team led by Senior Technical Expert Paresh Shah is visiting Bengaluru today to conduct an inquiry into the matter.
This case came to light following the release of a video depicting the alleged abuse of a small child at the day-care center. The investigation is currently underway. Meanwhile, authorities reported on Friday that a woman has been arrested in connection with the alleged torture of a child at the day-care center in Brookfield.
Details of the Investigation
According to the Bengaluru Commissioner, the FIR filed in this case names the woman as the accused. She was identified during the examination of video footage related to the alleged mistreatment of the child and was subsequently taken into custody.
The Commissioner indicated that the accused will be presented in court, and during the ongoing investigation, custody will be sought for further questioning.
Government's Response
Reacting to the incident, Karnataka's Home Minister Priyank Kharge condemned the alleged attack as "absolutely unacceptable" and emphasized that such incidents will not be tolerated.
Kharge stated, "This incident is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated. Authorities have already requested a report on this matter." He also mentioned that there is a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP) that clearly outlines how day-care centers should operate, and he has asked the management for a written explanation.
