NCP Leadership Changes
On Tuesday, the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), led by Sharad Pawar, announced the dismissal of all its spokespersons from their roles. Until new appointments are finalized, party leaders Vidya Chavan and Mahesh Tapase will act as the official spokespersons, as stated in a social media update from the Pawar faction.

This decision follows a statewide tour initiated by Shashikant Shinde, the head of the party's Maharashtra unit, aimed at assessing the NCP(SP)'s operational effectiveness and organizational framework, according to reports.
During this tour, Shinde appointed Sushil Borde as the president of the student wing, Vishal Wakadkar as the leader of the youth wing, and Ram Rathod as the head of the teachers' cell.
Rumors of Political Merger
The recent restructuring has sparked rumors regarding a potential alliance with the Bharatiya Janata Party-led Mahayuti coalition in Maharashtra. These speculations gained traction after a meeting between leaders from the Ajit Pawar faction, which is part of the ruling coalition, and the NCP(SP) at Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis' residence.
The Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP is aligned with the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi coalition, which includes Uddhav Thackeray's Shiv Sena faction and the Congress party.
In June, Maharashtra Congress leader Vijay Wadettiwar mentioned that discussions were ongoing between the Congress and the NCP(SP) regarding a possible merger.
The NCP experienced a split in 2023 when Ajit Pawar, along with several party MLAs, joined the Mahayuti coalition government, which includes the BJP and the Eknath Shinde-led Shiv Sena faction.
