NCP's Stance on 'Operation Tutari'

Shashikant Shinde, the state president of the NCP led by Sharad Pawar, has asserted that the ongoing discussions surrounding 'Operation Tutari' are unfounded and merely an attempt to create a specific narrative. He emphasized that there is no such operation in the works, labeling it as an effort to remain relevant in political discourse. According to Shinde, all party members, including MPs and MLAs, stand united under Sharad Pawar's leadership, and no one is leaving the party. The speculation about 'Operation Tutari' gained traction following the defection of six MPs from the Shiv Sena (Uddhav Balasaheb Thackeray faction) to the faction led by Eknath Shinde. Political circles have also been buzzing with rumors that some NCP MPs might join the National Democratic Alliance (NDA). However, Shinde has categorically rejected all such claims.

Allegations of Funding Disparities

Shinde further accused both the central and state governments of withholding funds from opposition representatives for development projects. He pointed out that there used to be a tradition of providing funds to elected representatives from opposition parties, as they too are chosen by the public and require resources for development in their constituencies. However, he claimed that the ruling party, particularly the BJP, is currently using its power to suppress the opposition. Shinde reiterated that the tradition of funding opposition representatives has been disregarded, which he believes is detrimental to democracy.

Concerns Over Democratic Integrity

He expressed concern that a new precedent has been set in politics where opposition representatives are denied funding, which he described as a troubling reality. Shinde believes that the public is wise and that if power shifts in the future, the current rulers may face similar challenges, for which they will be accountable. He concluded by stating that there are currently no discussions regarding any mergers, and the ongoing political developments in the state and country raise questions about the future of democracy. He lamented the unfortunate attempts to undermine elected representatives from opposition parties.
