Rohini Khadse's Bold Proposal to the President

NCP Leader Advocates for Women's Rights on International Women's Day

On International Women's Day, Rohini Khadse Khewalkar, a prominent figure in the women's wing of the NCP (Sharadchandra faction), addressed a letter to President Draupadi Murmu. In her correspondence, Khadse proposed that women be granted the right to commit one murder, a statement that has sparked considerable debate. This demand stems from her concerns regarding the increasing violence against women. Rohini is the daughter of Eknath Khadse, a notable leader within Maharashtra's NCP.

Khadse expressed her alarm over the deteriorating safety of women in India, highlighting the daily rise in atrocities. She drew parallels to historical female warriors, stating, “If figures like Maharani Tara Rani and Ahilya Devi Holkar fought for their homeland, why should we not strive for social reform?”

In her letter, she emphasized the urgent need to combat the oppressive mindset, the culture of rape, and the ineffective law enforcement. She referenced a recent tragic incident involving the gang rape of a 12-year-old girl in Mumbai, which has fueled her call for action.

In her appeal, Khadse stated, "Women should have the authority to challenge the oppressive mindset, the tendency of rapists, and the failures of law enforcement." She questioned the safety of women in the country, especially in its financial hub, Mumbai, following such heinous acts.

'Demand for One Murder Exemption'

Khadse further highlighted a report from the World Population Review, which ranks India as the most dangerous country in Asia for women. This report details issues such as kidnappings, disappearances, domestic violence, and other severe crimes. In light of this, she reiterated the demand for women to be granted one murder exemption.
