New AI Module for Classes 9 to 12

New Delhi: Students in grades 9 through 12 will now engage with a new 20-hour introductory module on computational thinking (CT) and artificial intelligence (AI), developed by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT). This initiative aims to enhance understanding of AI's everyday applications, machine learning, deepfake detection, and the ethical considerations surrounding personal data.

Created in collaboration with IIT Madras and IIT Jodhpur, this activity-oriented module is designed for learners with no previous exposure to AI. It aims to foster critical thinking, creativity, and problem-solving skills while introducing CT as a structured method for addressing challenges.

The curriculum emphasizes hands-on learning to clarify AI concepts, its applications, limitations, and the importance of data privacy and responsible technology use. It incorporates experiential learning through discussions, practical tasks, experimentation, and reflection.

Activities can be performed with or without digital tools, ensuring that all students can participate meaningfully, regardless of their school environment.

A significant focus is placed on the ethical and secure use of AI, covering topics such as data privacy, misinformation, fairness, digital safety, and the critical evaluation of AI-generated content.

The module aims to empower students to become knowledgeable, confident, and responsible users of technology, while underscoring the importance of human judgment, creativity, and ethical accountability in the learning process.
