NCC Cyclothon 2026 Celebrates 79 Years of India's Independence
Flagging Off the Cyclothon
On Sunday, Union Sports Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and BJP MP Sanjay Seth inaugurated the NCC Cyclothon 2026 at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium in New Delhi. The leaders participated in the event by cycling alongside NCC cadets, celebrating a 79-kilometre ride that honors 79 years of India's independence. This significant cycling event commenced and concluded at the Major Dhyan Chand National Stadium.
Empowering Youth for a Developed India
BJP MP Sanjay Seth emphasized that the NCC Cyclothon 2026 showcases the strength and potential of India's youth, underlining their dedication to the vision of a developed nation. He commended the 79 cadets for embodying the principles of 'Nation First,' promoting cleanliness, fitness, and a drug-free lifestyle, while also highlighting the NCC's values of unity and discipline.
"As we celebrate 79 years of independence, we recognize the youth as our greatest asset. Prime Minister Modi frequently states that the nation's advancement relies on its youth and their collective strength. Today, as 79 cadets participate in this Cyclothon, they unite under the goal of 'Nation First.' These cadets represent the mission for a 'Viksit Bharat' (Developed India), advocating for a clean environment, physical fitness, and a drug-free society. Their involvement in this event reflects the core NCC principles of unity and discipline," Seth remarked.
Mary Kom on the Importance of Discipline
Olympic champion Mary Kom praised the NCC Cyclothon as a significant initiative aimed at empowering and motivating the youth. She highlighted that discipline, determination, and resilience are crucial for achieving success in any endeavor, expressing her hope that her journey as an athlete inspires young individuals to strive for excellence.
"I was honored to be part of the NCC cycle rally in Delhi, and it was an incredible experience. This initiative is vital for the youth. I am here to support them... Whether in the NCC or any other area, discipline and a 'never-give-up' attitude are essential... It brings me joy to think that by witnessing my journey, they might learn valuable lessons about becoming champions in life," Mary Kom shared with reporters.
Leander Paes Celebrates the Cadets
Former Indian tennis star Leander Paes congratulated the NCC cadets involved in the Cyclothon 2026, describing the event as a splendid celebration of India's 79th year of independence. He praised the participants who cycled from various parts of the country to gather in Delhi, calling the initiative a proud tribute to Bharat.
"To all the cadets participating, best of luck. This is a wonderful celebration of our 79th Independence Day. They have cycled from all corners of our nation to converge here in Delhi. It is truly a magnificent celebration of Bharat," Leander Paes stated.
