NCB Reports Major Drug Seizures and Convictions in 2025
Significant Drug Enforcement Achievements
The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) has revealed that in 2025, a total of 37 Interpol notices were issued against alleged drug traffickers, leading to the seizure of approximately 1.33 lakh kilograms of narcotics valued at around ₹2,000 crores. In a statement released on Wednesday, the federal drug enforcement agency shared a graph detailing its activities over the year, noting that over 77,000 kilograms of drugs were destroyed during this period, with an estimated worth of ₹3,889 crores.
Convictions and Sentencing
According to the NCB, 265 drug offenders were convicted in 131 cases throughout 2025. Among these, 39 individuals received maximum sentences of 20 years, while 210 others were sentenced to 10 years or more but less than 20 years. The agency reported a conviction rate of 67% in drug-related cases resolved by the courts, showing a slight increase from the 60.8% recorded in 2024.
International Cooperation and Extraditions
The statement highlighted the agency's significant progress in international collaboration, particularly in identifying and extraditing fugitives. In the previous year, the NCB received 14 Interpol Red Notices (for locating and temporarily arresting criminals), 22 Interpol Blue Notices (to gather additional information about a person's identity and whereabouts), and one Interpol Silver Notice (for identifying criminal assets). During 2025, five fugitives were extradited from countries including the United Arab Emirates, Sri Lanka, and Malaysia.
Drug Seizures and Arrests
The agency reported that narcotics worth approximately ₹1,980 crores were seized, and 994 drug traffickers were arrested in 447 cases, including 25 foreign nationals. The NCB also dismantled six illegal drug manufacturing labs operating in Rajasthan, Maharashtra, West Bengal, and Madhya Pradesh.
Public Engagement and Reporting
Additionally, the agency noted that its national drug prevention helpline, 'Maanas' (Narcotics Prohibition Information Center), received over 119,000 contacts from citizens, many of which included actionable information. Based on the calls received on the Maanas helpline, the NCB and various state and union territory drug enforcement units registered a total of 110 cases.
