BJD Leader Calls Out Government's Inaction
Bhubaneswar: Naveen Patnaik, the president of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and the Leader of the Opposition in Odisha's Assembly, has voiced strong criticism against the BJP-led state government regarding its inadequate response to the cholera outbreak.
In a post on his official X account, Patnaik expressed his shock at the government's lackadaisical attitude towards the cholera situation in Odisha, stating, “The state government’s negligence in addressing the cholera spread is both shocking and alarming.”
He highlighted that cholera is worsening in several districts, including Jajpur, Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Puri, Cuttack, and Keonjhar, and is now beginning to affect other regions of the state.
Patnaik conveyed his sorrow over the outbreak, noting the tragic loss of 14 lives and offering his condolences to the grieving families.
He remarked, “Cholera poses a serious threat to lives. What was once rare is now disrupting daily activities across numerous districts,” in his tweet.
The BJD leader urged the state authorities to stay vigilant and implement robust, immediate actions to control the disease's spread and safeguard public health.
