Nationwide Mediation Initiative Launched to Alleviate Judicial Backlog

The 'Mediation for the Nation' campaign has been launched across India, running from July 1 to September 30, 2025. Spearheaded by Chief Justice BR Gavai, this initiative aims to expedite the resolution of pending cases through mediation. Courts nationwide are encouraged to refer cases for mediation, focusing on various disputes, including matrimonial and commercial issues. In Kangra district, local authorities are actively promoting public participation in this campaign, highlighting the benefits of mediation in saving time and preserving relationships. This initiative seeks to alleviate the judicial backlog and foster amicable resolutions.

Mediation for the Nation Campaign Kicks Off

Dharamshala: A new nationwide initiative named 'Mediation for the Nation' has been officially launched across India, starting from July 1 and set to continue until September 30, 2025.


The 90-day campaign is spearheaded by Chief Justice of India BR Gavai and Justice Suryakant, who serves as the Executive Chairman of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA).


As part of this initiative, courts throughout the country have been instructed to prioritize the referral of pending cases to mediation. This strategy aims to facilitate quicker and amicable resolutions to disputes while also addressing the issue of judicial backlog.


Mediation Efforts in Kangra District

Rajiv Bali, the Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Kangra, along with the District and Sessions Judge, confirmed that all courts in the Kangra district are actively participating in this campaign.


He emphasized that mediation serves as an effective and amicable method for resolving disputes, which can help preserve relationships, save time, and reduce costs. He encouraged the public to engage in this campaign by referring their pending cases for mediation, as stated by the Secretary of DLSA.


During this 90-day initiative, the focus will be on resolving various types of disputes, including matrimonial issues, domestic violence cases, cheque bounce matters, commercial disputes, compoundable criminal cases, consumer complaints, debt recovery issues, partition disputes, eviction cases, land acquisition conflicts, and other civil matters.
