Under the guidance of Principal Dr. Anil Kumar Thakur, the Department of Economics at Government Arya Degree College in Nurpur successfully hosted a national seminar titled “Statistical Strengthening: Importance and Practical Relevance of Statistics.” This event saw enthusiastic participation from 90 students who were trained in data infrastructure.


The seminar was sponsored by the Department of Economics and Statistics of the Government of Himachal Pradesh and was conducted as part of the Strategic Statistical Plan (SSS) initiated by the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation (MOSPI), Government of India.


The interdisciplinary nature of the seminar was underscored by the attendance of Prof. Kiran Bala, Head of the Commerce Department, alongside Prof. Pearl Bakhshi from the Economics Department. Prof. Bakhshi highlighted the essential connection between economic theory and data-driven policymaking.


Dr. Amit Srivastava, Professor and Head of Department at Jaypee Business School, Waknaghat, delivered the keynote address. With over 25 years of experience and more than 30 research publications, Dr. Srivastava provided an enlightening lecture on the importance of statistical infrastructure. He articulated how strong data systems are vital for economic growth, international finance, and national planning.


During the technical sessions, the 90 participants engaged thoroughly, discovering how the theoretical aspects of statistics can be utilized to address challenges in global business practices. The seminar concluded with an encouragement for students to adopt data literacy as a fundamental skill for their future careers.
