National Conference Takes Legal Action Against Waqf Amendment Act in Supreme Court

Jammu: The National Conference has announced plans to challenge the Waqf Amendment Act by filing a writ petition in the Supreme Court, as stated by the party's chief spokesperson and legislator, Tanvir Sadiq, on Wednesday.

Following instructions from President Farooq Abdullah, Sadiq informed reporters outside the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly after its adjournment that the party is prepared to engage in a legal battle in the highest court.

He expressed concerns that the Act signifies a constitutionally troubling intrusion into the religious practices of the Muslim community.

According to Sadiq, the Act infringes upon essential constitutional rights outlined in Articles 14, 15, 21, 25, 26, 29, and 300A, posing a direct threat to the religious liberties, equality, and property rights of Muslims nationwide.
