Nalbari's New Integrated District Commissioner’s Office Set for Inauguration

Inauguration of the Integrated District Commissioner’s Office

Nalbari, Jan 2: The highly anticipated Integrated District Commissioner’s Office in Nalbari is on the verge of inauguration, representing a significant enhancement in the district's administrative framework.

This eight-storey building, constructed at an estimated cost of approximately Rs 50 crore, spans 22 bighas of land along National Highway 27 and is designed to serve as a contemporary, corporate-style administrative center.

Local MLA and Cabinet Minister Jayanta Mallabaruah conducted a review of the project's progress on Friday and expressed his approval of the work's pace. He noted that the integrated campus will accommodate all departments linked to the District Commissioner’s office, including the Education Department, Social Welfare Department, and the Nalbari Revenue Circle Officer.

Additionally, a circuit house is planned for the same site to further enhance the official infrastructure.

Emphasizing the project's importance, Baruah stated that the integrated office aims to foster better inter-departmental coordination and enhance public service delivery.

"This DC office has been designed to resemble a corporate office. All district-level departments will operate from a single campus, making administration more efficient and accessible to the public," he remarked, adding that the complex is nearing completion and preparations are in progress for its formal opening.

As part of the Republic Day festivities, a special cultural event is scheduled to take place at the site of the under-construction complex.

"On January 26, approximately 1,000 boys and girls will gather here to perform ‘Vande Mataram’. We are working to ensure the project is ready to host this event meaningfully," the minister stated.

Earlier in the day, Baruah inspected and inaugurated several development initiatives throughout Nalbari.

He officially opened the newly established MRI center at Nalbari Medical College and Hospital, describing it as a significant benefit for patients in Nalbari and surrounding areas.

"Previously, many patients had to travel to Guwahati due to the lack of an MRI facility. This machine will alleviate time, cost, and hardship for thousands," he explained.

To highlight the medical college's impact, Baruah shared that in just three years since its inception, Nalbari Medical College has experienced remarkable growth.

"Around 22,000 individuals have received treatment under the Ayushman Bharat scheme here, saving nearly Rs 20 crore of public funds. The OPD attendance has surpassed 4.72 lakh, while IPD admissions are around 1.65 lakh. Despite initial equipment limitations, the hospital has performed admirably as a newly established institution," he added, noting that Nalbari has the highest patient inflow among new medical colleges in Assam.

The minister also assessed the progress of the convention center being constructed near the Shaheed Mukunda Kakoti Bus Stand, calling it another vital addition to the district's civic infrastructure.
