Naharlagun Police Intensifies ILP Checks to Ensure Compliance

Comprehensive ILP Enforcement in Itanagar
Itanagar, June 7: The police in Naharlagun conducted an extensive drive on Friday to check Inner Line Permits (ILP) at various strategic locations throughout the capital region. This operation resulted in the identification of 219 individuals lacking valid ILP documentation.
This rigorous enforcement effort took place in areas such as Papu Hills, Naharlagun town, Nirjuli, and Banderdewa, as part of a sustained initiative aimed at preventing unauthorized residency by individuals from outside Arunachal Pradesh.
According to Naharlagun Superintendent of Police, Mihin Gambo, all offenders were verified on-site and subsequently presented to the Executive Magistrate through non-FIR procedures. Following established legal protocols, these individuals were ordered to leave the capital region immediately.
Given the rising number of ILP violations detected in the Itanagar Capital Region, especially in busy areas like markets, commercial venues, and construction sites, the police urged the community to refrain from engaging with outsiders who do not possess valid ILP documents and to report any suspected violations to the nearest police station.
The ILP system, established under the Bengal Eastern Frontier Regulation of 1873, mandates that non-Arunachal Pradesh Scheduled Tribe (non-APST) individuals obtain a special permit to enter and reside in the state. This regulation is crucial for safeguarding the rights, culture, and land of Arunachal Pradesh's indigenous populations.
"We will continue to conduct regular ILP enforcement drives in the future," stated the SP, emphasizing that all non-APST individuals should carry valid ILP documents at all times and cooperate with authorities during verification efforts.
