Destruction of Seized Narcotics

Raha, Dec 31: The Nagaon district authorities conducted a significant operation on Wednesday, incinerating narcotics valued at over ₹17.5 crore. This included 6.345 kg of heroin and 248 kg of ganja, among other illegal substances, at a brick kiln located in the Telia Borjaha region.

The incineration was executed in compliance with legal protocols and environmental safety standards, overseen by Nagaon District Commissioner Debashish Sharma, Senior Superintendent of Police Swapnanil Deka, along with other high-ranking police officials.

Commissioner Sharma informed the media that the current seizure amounted to ₹17.5 crore, noting an increase in registered drug-related cases from 380 in 2024 to 388 in 2025. The number of arrests has also surged to 530.

This initiative is part of the ongoing efforts by the Nagaon Police to combat drug trafficking, with the ultimate goal of eradicating drugs from the district.

Authorities indicated that the contraband destroyed was confiscated during various operations aimed at apprehending drug suppliers and traders, resulting in multiple arrests.

Sharma reaffirmed the administration's commitment to this crackdown, emphasizing that efforts will persist without exception.

“This operation sends a clear message: regardless of traffickers' efforts, our battle against drugs will remain relentless. We are determined to prevent drugs from affecting future generations,” he stated.

SSP Deka supported this stance, indicating that enforcement actions would be further strengthened to transform Nagaon into a drug-free area.
