Nagaon District Administration Issues Expulsion Orders for 15 Declared Foreigners
Expulsion Orders Issued in Nagaon
Nagaon, Dec 18: The district administration of Nagaon has taken significant steps by issuing expulsion orders for 15 individuals identified as foreigners by various Foreigners’ Tribunals, reinforcing actions under the Immigrants (Expulsion from Assam) Act of 1950.
Official documents from the District Commissioner’s office indicate that these individuals were unable to prove their Indian citizenship during tribunal hearings.
The affected individuals reside in different villages across several police jurisdictions, including Raha, Kaliabor, Samaguri, and Rupahi.
As per the Nagaon District Deputy Commissioner’s office, these actions were initiated following a communication from the Senior Superintendent of Police, Nagaon, dated November 17, 2025.
The expulsion orders mandate that the individuals must vacate Indian territory within 24 hours of receiving the notice; failure to comply will result in forced removal from Assam and India.
These orders, issued under Section 2 of the Immigrants Act, empower district police, border officials, and administrative personnel to carry out the removals.
Additionally, the orders require officials to remove the names of the declared foreigners from electoral rolls, revoke Aadhaar cards, and ensure that no government benefits are provided to them.
In a related incident, the arrest of Hussain Ali from Dighali Ati village has raised concerns among his family.
His wife expressed confusion over the grounds for his detention, asserting, "We have lived here for many years. My husband was arrested based on doubts, but he is a resident here," emphasizing his long-standing presence in Assam.
Following his arrest, Ali approached the Gauhati High Court, claiming he was detained without any notice from a Foreigners’ Tribunal or a valid reason.
The court, after reviewing the petition, has issued notices to the Union of India, the State of Assam, NRC authorities, the Election Commission of India, and senior district officials, requesting clarification on the legality of the arrest.
While officials have not directly connected Ali’s arrest to the expulsion orders, this situation has reignited discussions regarding the enforcement of foreigner-related actions and the necessity of due process.
Administrative sources indicate that this operation sends a strong message from the Assam government that the decisions made by the Foreigners Tribunal will be actively enforced, rather than remaining as mere paperwork.
