Nagaon, Sept 22: In preparation for the upcoming bypoll in the Nagaon parliamentary constituency, a review meeting was convened by District Election Officer and District Commissioner Aranyak Saikia. This meeting included zonal and sector officers assigned to election duties within the district.
For the 1,339 polling stations across five Legislative Assembly constituencies in Nagaon, a total of 203 sectors and 53 zonal officers have been appointed to oversee the election process.
Officials have been instructed to visit each polling station prior to the election to assess facilities and address any issues, as stated in an official press release.
The meeting, which took place in the District Commissioner’s office conference hall, focused on potential challenges that zonal and sector officers might encounter during the electoral process.
Considering factors such as geographical location, communication, transportation, and security at polling stations, the Commissioner emphasized the importance of timely completion of all preparations.
The District Commissioner specifically requested that zonal and sector officers ensure proper lighting, protective boundary walls, access to drinking water, toilets, and road connectivity at polling stations to prevent any inconveniences for voters and election staff on polling day.
He urged them to stay vigilant and proactively resolve any existing issues at polling stations.
To facilitate the election process, each sector will cover approximately 10 polling stations, with one zonal officer overseeing three to four sectors.
Additional District Commissioners Gopal Sarma and Pallabi Gogoi, along with officials from the Education and Public Health departments and Circle Officers from the district, were present at the meeting.
