New Delhi, Oct 8: Authorities have detained three individuals following a report of harassment made by a woman from Nagaland at a luxury hotel located in Chanakyapuri, Delhi.
The suspects, named Divyanshu, Gaurav, and Mohit, were apprehended by the Chanakyapuri police, according to official sources.
During their interrogation, the accused refuted some of the claims made against them, as stated by the police.
The alleged incident occurred around 3:30 AM on October 4 in the hotel's parking lot, where the woman claimed that the men attempted to forcibly drag her into a white Mercedes.
When her friends intervened, they were reportedly attacked with hockey sticks and iron rods, according to police reports.
The woman had visited the hotel with a friend. In her complaint, she mentioned that the three men approached them while they were returning from the restroom and attempted to stop them, trying to pull her towards their vehicle.
Her friends, identified as Ayush, Udbhav, and Samarth, came to her aid. Ayush sustained injuries to his teeth, while Udbhav and Samarth also faced assaults, as reported by the police.
After the police arrived, the suspects allegedly fled the scene. The woman had recorded the registration number of the Mercedes, which assisted the police in identifying the three men.
She was subsequently taken to Dr. Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital for a medical examination. The police confirmed that a case was filed based on her complaint and the medical findings.
Investigators are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel and other relevant evidence, while medical reports are being analyzed to determine the extent of injuries sustained by those involved.
The incident has prompted a response from Meghalaya's Chief Minister, Conrad K Sangma, who condemned the alleged harassment and called for stringent action from the Delhi Police. He expressed his distress over the incident, stating, “Deeply disturbed by the report of a woman from Nagaland being harassed and her friends being assaulted in a parking lot in Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. These repeated attacks on our people from the North East are shameful and must stop. Urge @DelhiPolice to take the strictest action against those involved,” in a social media post.
