Nagaland Police Take Action Against Land Encroachment at Dimapur Airport

Investigation Uncovers Land Encroachment Scheme
Kohima, June 14: Following an extensive investigation, the Nagaland Police have identified 31 individuals, including six public officials, as suspects in a land encroachment case linked to Dimapur Airport.
Charges have been filed against 25 private individuals, while the police are seeking prosecution approval for the six public servants from their respective departments, as required by law.
This announcement follows a significant eviction operation conducted at the location.
The accused face multiple charges under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), including criminal conspiracy, cheating, forgery, and other related crimes.
The case centers on allegations of unlawful occupation of government land at Dimapur Airport, allegedly facilitated by forged documents.
In response to directives from the Home Department, the Nagaland Police launched a preliminary inquiry that revealed sufficient evidence of cognizable offences.
As a result, a formal FIR was registered at the State Crime Police Station (SCPS) at Police Headquarters (PHQ).
Additionally, a Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed to conduct a thorough investigation. The SIT reviewed documents, collected evidence, and after a comprehensive inquiry, recommended charges against all 31 individuals.
The charges against the 25 private individuals have been filed in the competent court in Dimapur.
For the six public officials, the Investigating Officer and the SIT have requested prosecution approval from the Department of Personnel and Administrative Reforms (P&AR) and the Department of Land Records.
On Friday, a committee from the Airports Authority of India (AAI), along with district and police officials from Chümoukedima and Dimapur, demolished 24 illegal structures, which included four RCC buildings, three semi-pucca houses, and 17 thatched homes.
Officials confirmed that around 17.9 acres of government land in Dag Nos. 38 and 40 in Diphupar village, unlawfully occupied by 22 individuals, has been cleared.
The case is anticipated to progress through legal avenues in the upcoming weeks.
