Nagaland Police Issues Travel Advisory for Assam Amid Election Preparations
Travel Advisory for Citizens Heading to Assam
Dimapur, Mar 20: The police department in Nagaland has released a public advisory, urging residents who plan to travel to Assam to be cautious due to the enforcement of the model code of conduct (MCC) in the state ahead of the assembly elections.
According to a press release, election officials and law enforcement are ramping up surveillance and conducting checks at inter-state borders and other key locations to ensure that the elections are conducted in a free, fair, and transparent manner.
The advisory highlighted that many law-abiding citizens have encountered issues due to unawareness of the election-related restrictions.
To prevent any inconvenience or legal issues, travelers are advised to strictly follow the regulations.
Key precautions include refraining from carrying large amounts of cash without proper documentation, as this could result in detention or confiscation by authorities. Additionally, individuals should have valid documentation for valuable items like gold or silver to avoid inquiries or seizures.
The advisory also cautioned against transporting political materials, such as pamphlets and posters, without the necessary authorization, as this could lead to legal repercussions.
Travelers should be ready for comprehensive vehicle inspections at various checkpoints and are encouraged to cooperate with officials by presenting valid identification and relevant documents.
Furthermore, the police emphasized that carrying firearms and ammunition without appropriate licenses and permissions is strictly forbidden.
The inter-state boundary between Nagaland and Assam spans approximately 512 km, with seven districts of Nagaland bordering Assam. The elections for the 126-member Assam assembly are scheduled for April 9, with vote counting set for May 4.
