Dimapur, June 2: Over 6,000 government personnel are set to participate in the Census 2027 in Nagaland, which will unfold in two distinct phases as the state enhances its preparations for this significant administrative task.
The initial phase will commence with house-listing operations, allowing residents to self-enumerate their households online from June 16 to June 30. This will be succeeded by a verification process of the self-reported data and the enumeration of households.
The second phase, slated for February 2027, will focus on the actual population enumeration, where demographic data will be gathered throughout the state.
The Directorate of Census Operations in Nagaland has urged all citizens to engage actively and provide their full support to ensure the successful execution of Census 2027.
Training for field trainers across all 17 districts has already been completed as part of the preparatory measures.
These trained field trainers will then conduct training sessions for census supervisors and enumerators throughout June, covering 157 sub-districts, municipalities, and towns.
These latest preparations follow the state government's formal announcement regarding the Census 2027 schedule and the initiation of awareness campaigns aimed at ensuring a precise and transparent enumeration process.
Previously, Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio emphasized the importance of Census 2027 for Nagaland, noting discrepancies in the state's decadal population growth rate compared to the national average.
He has called upon elected officials and political leaders to assist in ensuring an accurate census by preventing duplicate entries and inflated population counts.
Rio also warned that exaggerated census data could lead to issues in areas like Aadhaar coverage and school enrollment statistics, highlighting the necessity for honesty and integrity during the enumeration.
Officials have consistently stressed that precise census data is vital for the planning and execution of government initiatives and welfare programs.
Dr. Zasikuolie Chusi, Director of Census Operations in Nagaland, previously urged stakeholders to refrain from duplicate enumeration and any intentional inflation of population figures, cautioning that such actions could distort socio-economic data essential for policy-making and developmental planning.
The Census 2027 initiative will also introduce a significant technological advancement, with enumeration being carried out via digital platforms and mobile applications, complemented by real-time monitoring systems.
The Directorate has reiterated its request for public cooperation, emphasizing that the success of the census hinges on citizen participation and the provision of accurate information.
