Dimapur, Nov 8: Y Patton, the Deputy Chief Minister of Nagaland, voiced his worries on Saturday regarding the proliferation of various underground factions and the escalating issue of extortion within the state. He emphasized the necessity for enhanced unity among the Naga groups.
Patton pointed out that the Government of India is prepared to offer a singular solution to the Naga issue, rather than catering to the demands of 36-37 different factions present in the state.
He highlighted that Nagaland holds the record for the highest number of factions in India, along with the most significant extortion rates, particularly in the districts of Dimapur, Chumoukedima, and Niuland.
Speaking at the Tokhu Emong celebration, organized by the Dimapur Lotha Hoho at the Multi Disciplinary Sports Complex, Patton urged Naga political factions to come together.
Tokhu Emong is a major festival celebrated by the Lotha Naga tribe, honoring the Almighty for a fruitful harvest and blessings received throughout the year.
He called upon the factions to collaborate and unify their efforts to address the Naga issue effectively. Patton noted that the Naga populace has been advocating for unity among all groups.
He encouraged the Lotha Naga community to deepen their understanding of the Naga movement and work towards a solution that is acceptable to all segments of the Naga population.
“We must not promote disunity and should refrain from contributing to the fragmentation of our Naga society,” he stated.
Patton extended his Tokhu Emong wishes to all Lotha individuals residing in and around Dimapur and throughout the nation, expressing hope that the celebration would enhance brotherhood, peace, understanding, and prosperity within the Naga community.
