Nagaland Chief Secretary Evaluates Landslide Damage Amid Heavy Rains

Assessment of Landslide-Affected Areas
Guwahati, July 10: Following a series of relentless rains that struck Nagaland recently, Chief Secretary J Alam conducted a visit on Wednesday to the Medziphema subdivision in Chumoukedima district, focusing on areas impacted by landslides.
During his visit, Alam examined the Piphema-Tsiepama boundary and Kukidolong region, where he evaluated the destruction caused by the heavy rainfall, which resulted in mudslides and landslides. He also engaged with contractors to discuss strategies for managing the ongoing crisis.
The Chief Secretary urged district administration and NSDMA officials to assess the flood-affected regions and oversee the relief efforts.
Accompanying Alam were Additional Secretary of Transport and NSDMA, Sentiwapang Aier, Chumukedima DC Polen John, DCP Nikho Venuh, and Medziphema ADC James Swu.
Alam further inspected the state of National Highway 29 near the Olive Hospital junction in Chumukedima district. He inquired about the current projects and the extent of damage caused by the rains, instructing officials to implement precautionary measures and provide necessary support under disaster management in the affected areas.
In a related development, Kohima DC B Henok Buchem announced that only six-wheeler goods trucks would be permitted to travel along the impacted section of National Highway-29 in Kohima until further notice. This decision was made due to worsening road conditions at the old KMC dumping site and ongoing landslides near the old toll tax gate.
