Nagaland-Assam Border Sealed Ahead of Assembly Elections

In anticipation of the Assam assembly elections on April 9, authorities have sealed the Nagaland-Assam border to enhance security and prevent voter manipulation. The closure, effective from 5 PM on Tuesday until 5 PM on election day, restricts all inter-state crossings except for legitimate transit on the national highway. Security forces will monitor entry and exit points, and residents are urged to limit movement to avoid inconvenience. This measure is part of a broader strategy by the Election Commission to maintain order during the silent period of campaigning. Enhanced surveillance and security arrangements are in place to ensure a peaceful election process.

Dimapur, April 8: In preparation for the Assam assembly elections set for April 9, the border between Nagaland and Assam has been sealed.

According to a public announcement from the Dimapur police PRO, the border will remain closed from 5 PM on Tuesday until 5 PM on April 9.

The announcement indicated that security personnel will be stationed at all entry and exit points to enforce this directive.

All inter-state border crossings will be restricted, with the exception of travel along the national highway. Non-voters in border regions will not be allowed to move, and outsiders are prohibited from entering other constituencies during this time.

Only individuals traveling for legitimate transit purposes will be permitted to use the national highway, as stated in the notice.

The police have urged residents, traders, commuters, and the general public to limit unnecessary travel during this period to prevent any inconvenience.

This restriction has been implemented by the Election Commission of India during the silent phase of the election, when all campaigning activities are strictly forbidden.

The sealing of the border is part of enhanced election monitoring and security measures across Assam, with authorities ramping up efforts to deter any attempts to sway voters during this quiet period.

Officials have reported that check posts along inter-district and inter-state borders are on high alert, while flying squads have been instructed to investigate any suspicious activities and ensure adherence to Election Commission regulations.

Security measures have been bolstered with the deployment of central armed paramilitary forces as per the security strategy to guarantee peaceful voting throughout the state.

Authorities have confirmed that essential logistical and operational preparations have been made to ensure the smooth execution of the election.
