N. Rangasamy Sworn in as Chief Minister
The leader of the All India N.R. Congress (AINRC), N. Rangasamy, officially took the oath of office as the Chief Minister of Puducherry on Wednesday. The oath was administered by the Lieutenant Governor of Puducherry, K. Narayanasamy, in the presence of Nitin Nabin, the national president of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). During this event, BJP leader A. Namassivayam also took the oath as a cabinet minister in the Puducherry government.
Following the ceremony, Chief Minister Rangasamy expressed gratitude to the voters and highlighted the priorities of the newly formed National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government. He stated, “It is our duty to implement all necessary schemes for public welfare more effectively. We are committed to fulfilling this responsibility with excellence.” He further added, “We aim to develop Puducherry to resemble Singapore.”
After taking the oath, BJP leader A. Namassivayam informed a news outlet that their focus remains on serving the public. He assured that all existing schemes will continue, and new initiatives will also be launched. “We will ensure the best development for Puducherry. If more ministers are to be sworn in the coming days, we will discuss this with our leaders,” he mentioned. AINRC leader Malladi Krishna Rao, who is taking charge for the fourth time, stated that the allocation of departments will be done either this week or next week. He noted that the central government supports various schemes, which will automatically enhance facilities and tourism. Regarding whether the legislators will take the oath, he said that it is up to the Chief Minister. “I am very happy,” he concluded.
The oath-taking ceremony followed the announcement of the Puducherry Assembly election results on May 4. The NDA retained power in Puducherry, where the N.R. Congress secured 12 seats in the 30-member assembly, while the BJP won four seats. The AIADMK managed to secure one seat, whereas the DMK won five seats and the Congress one. The Tamil Nadu-based party TVK, which contested elections in the region for the first time, won two seats.
