In Rourkela, authorities discovered a charred corpse in a wooded area near the Sector-7/17 intersection on Thursday morning. The identity of the individual remains a mystery.

Alongside the body, investigators found a burnt mobile phone and a yellow slipper, raising suspicions of foul play.

While the precise cause of death is still undetermined, the evidence suggests a potential homicide, prompting a thorough investigation.

The remains have been sent to the local government mortuary for an autopsy, and a case has been filed at the Sector-15 police station.

The body was located around 10 AM by firewood gatherers in the forested region behind a statue of BR Ambedkar in Sector-7/17 Square, who promptly notified the police.

Authorities also discovered remnants of burnt materials nearby, with some trees exhibiting signs of fire damage, indicating that the fire may have been set deliberately.

A forensic team, led by Zone-1 DSP Yogesh Panda and IIC Pratibha Manjari Sahu, conducted an initial investigation at the scene, aided by a sniffer dog unit. Panda noted that the body appears to be approximately three days old.

No apparent injuries were visible on the body, and the exact cause of death will be clarified following the autopsy.
