On the evening of the incident, Irfan was enjoying tea at a shop near Bismillah Chowk in Gaus Nagar when three assailants on a motorcycle approached and opened fire. Irfan collapsed to the ground, bleeding profusely.

Witnesses quickly gathered at the scene, prompting them to notify the Kareli police. DCP City Manish Kumar Shandilya and ADCP City Rajkumar Meena arrived with a police team. Irfan was rushed to SRN Hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Ateeq Ahmed and Ashraf Ahmed were shot dead on April 15, 2023, while being transported for a medical check-up in police custody near Colvin Hospital in Prayagraj.
