Mysterious Death of Undertrial Prisoner Raises Alarms in Anandapur Jail
Tragic Incident at Anandapur Sub-Jail
In a troubling incident at Anandapur Sub-Jail located in Keonjhar district, an undertrial prisoner passed away under unclear circumstances on Tuesday, raising serious concerns regarding the safety of inmates.
The individual, identified as 28-year-old Abhi Munda from the Soso police jurisdiction, died unexpectedly, prompting his family to question the events surrounding his demise, especially since he reportedly had no known health issues.
Authorities have initiated an investigation into the matter. Reports indicate that Abhi had been incarcerated since March 2024 due to a murder charge. On the morning of his death, he experienced fever along with chest and abdominal pain, leading jail officials to transport him to the Anandapur sub-divisional hospital, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.
While the family remains skeptical about the death of a seemingly healthy individual, they have yet to file a formal complaint. Following a report from jail officials, police have registered a case (23/25) and have sent the body for a postmortem examination.
Sub-jailor Sushil Kumar Panda stated that the prisoner had reported chest and abdominal discomfort earlier that day and was quickly taken to the hospital, where he succumbed. "He had no prior medical history. The precise cause of death will be determined after the postmortem results are available," Panda added.
