Tragic Discovery of Missing Teacher's Body

Jorhat, March 8: The lifeless body of a teacher from Assam, who had been unaccounted for since earlier this month while heading back to his job in Nagaland, was found in a river on Sunday, prompting inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his demise.

The individual has been identified as Abhijit Saikia, who resided in Titabor, located in Jorhat district of Assam. He had recently taken up a teaching position at Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalaya (JNV) in the Usha region of Nagaland.

Reports indicate that Saikia had taken a brief leave and was anticipated to return to work earlier this month.

However, he vanished shortly after departing from his home, raising alarms among his family and school officials.

According to family members, the principal of the school had reached out to Saikia on February 8, urging him to come back to work.

Saikia allegedly informed the principal that he would arrive by February 10, which the principal accepted. Unfortunately, he did not show up at the school and became unreachable thereafter.

“When we later inquired about his whereabouts, we were stunned to find out that he had been reported missing since February 8,” a relative of Saikia stated.

After his disappearance, the school administration filed a First Information Report (FIR) at the Usha Chitukong Police Station. Despite extensive search efforts, the police initially could not locate him.

Almost a week later, fishermen discovered a decomposed body floating in a river approximately 25 km from the school, situated in a densely forested area. They promptly notified the police, who arrived to recover the body.

“The body was located in a river within a thick jungle. Some fishermen spotted the decomposed remains while fishing and alerted the authorities. The police subsequently arrived and retrieved it,” a relative added.

The revelation of the body has left the teacher's family and the local community in disbelief. Saikia had only recently joined the Navodaya school, making his sudden disappearance and death particularly tragic.

The police have sent the body for a post-mortem examination and have informed the family. Officials stated that the precise cause of death will be established once the forensic report is available.

Authorities have launched an investigation into the incident to clarify the events leading to Saikia’s death.

In the meantime, family members and local residents are calling for a comprehensive and impartial investigation to uncover the truth behind the teacher’s enigmatic death.
